New Nissan LEAF Preview: UK-Built EV With Big Ambitions

One of several new EV's for the UK market in 2026 - the new Nissan Leaf means business.

New Nissan LEAF Preview: Built in Sunderland with big ambitions and an electric car grant!

The all-new Nissan LEAF has arrived and for businesses and employees with a salary sacrifice scheme this latest electric vehicle for 2026 deserves a serious look. This third-generation LEAF is manufactured at Nissan’s UK plant in Sunderland, giving it a home-grown edge that matters for reliability and supply chain stability - and helping it to achieve the full £3750 Electric Car Grant!

What’s new with this Nissan Leaf?

Styling has taken a leap: the roofline is sleeker, the tail more purposeful, and the blacked-out rear panel and 3D LED lights pay subtle homage to Nissan sports-car heritage.

Inside, dual large digital screens replace the old layout and the tech package gets an upgrade with Google-built-in services, wireless charging and a heat pump for colder weather.

What are the new specs and trims of trims for the new Nissan Leaf

Smaller cars are getting bigger batteries and a longer range and the Nissan Leaf is now different . At launch, the LEAF arrives with a 75 kWh battery, offering up to 386 miles WLTP of range - and the familiar Acenta, N-Connect and Tekna grades have been replaced with Engage, Engage+, Advance and Evolve - in line with Nissan's other electric models the Ariya and cousin to the fabulous Renault 5 the Nissan Micra.

Entry pricing starts from £32,249 (including UK EV Grant) with a smaller-battery and no doubt cheaper version expected in due course.

Why now the new Nissan Leaf matters

For leasing and fleet operations, the combination of full grant, long range and UK production makes the LEAF a standout. The fact it’s built in Sunderland means better localisation, potentially stronger supply, and regional jobs. All of which is relevant for businesses focusing on sustainability and regional community credentials.

The Nissan Leaf has also previously appealed to retail buyers - key to increasing the uptake of electric vehicles and given the upgrade feel of the new Leaf and with the support of the full electric car grant we believe the new model will present an appealing proposition - especially to those otherwise retail buyers who are able to take advantage of a salary sacrifice electric car scheme with their employer.

What we’re looking forward to

The images so far look really promising but as with all new models we reserve final judgement once we have seen the vehicle "in the flesh". We’re also keen to test how the new LEAF performs in real life and how close we can get to that stated 386 mile range - on both counts we can wait and watch this space for when we do !
